Temporary Difficulties?

An explanation is needed...

Economic Injury Disaster Loan Emergency Advance

This loan advance will provide up to $10,000 of economic relief to businesses that are currently experiencing temporary difficulties.
Surfside Homeowners Association, according to Association Treasurer, Rudd Turner, has applied for and received $10,000.00 from the US Small Business Administration for "temporary difficulties"

The members have the right to know what those difficulties are.
The BOLD print above is directly from the Small Business Administration "official" web site.

At the end of the first quarter, the association had over 2.5 million in reserves.
84.8% of the members have paid for the entire 2020 dues and assessments.
Several months remain for those paying on the installment plan.
Payments are ahead of last year at this time.
There has been no reduction in work force do to economic issues.
All bills and obligations are being met.
Budgeted expense items are continuing.

The Government has had to suspend the small business loans because the demand was greater than the supply. It has been extended to the agricultural industry only.

Should our members be worried about our HOA being in some kind of trouble?  The members need to know if their investment here is safe and secure.

Toby, the young man, who has done such an outstanding job of maintaining our member assets, will be leaving our work force. He is relocating to another area. He will be missed, and we wish him well with our appreciation of a job well done.

This whole ECONOMIC RELIEF FUNDS stinks of dishonesty. Time to whistle blow by members for a full investigation of this HOA. Something smells REAL fishy. Just sayin

Anyone who wants to be aware of the motion and vote should listen to the audio tape posted on the “official” surfside website. You will then for yourself what transpired at the April meeting

I take no credit for that. I only stumbled across it one day while looking at the “official” Surfside website. It takes a lot to listen to it all, but I just put my earbuds in and took my time. Very informative though.

It’s nice your dunes are higher than your home. Check out south side of oysterville beach approach! It’s being bull dozed down again! I thought the dunes were off limits to human destruction, but guess not!

I apologize. I put this comment about elevations on the wrong topic. You are right. There are specific guidelines for altering the dunes, even though they may be on private property. The Shoreline Plan is pretty complex regarding these things. There is a sort of vigilante mentality developing in this country, with a certain element taking the attitude that the State, in trying to protect the many, isn't listening to the selfish dissident few.

Unless this is a County project, I can't think of any valid reason to alter the dunes. The Ocean has such awesome power, there is little can be done to defy its' will. The PBS show Oregon Field Guide has an interesting episode that tells about the Oregon Coast exclusive resort town built in the 20s at the entrance to Tillamook Bay. The entire resort was eventually destroyed by the Sea. I think it was called Bay Ocean, or something like that. There were no roads to the area in those days, and they bought a huge launch to ferry the guests.

No not a county project. Just condo owners who want a better view of the ocean!

That's sad. The quandary is, what happens to the massive amount of sand that is pushed around ? The cost of hauling it away is prohibitive, and where would it be legally dumped ? If it is pushed out onto the beach, it will disfigure the beach, and then be redistributed onto other properties, or pushed back where it came from by the surf.

The 4 Plex near the Surfside office next to the pumphouse that was burned, excavated a trench to give them a view several years ago. That's where the highest point in the dunes came from. They just pushed the sand into tall ridges that block other property's views. The tides have systematically filled in the beach end of the gully they created.

As for the federal award/"loan", Mr. Turner, in league with Mr. Reber and Mr. Clancy, went ahead and applied for this hardship award, based on their projection that some owners will pay assessments late or not at all. What is clear is that there is less owned the HOA this year than last at this time, and many members pay on an installment plan.

In my first listening to the taped BOT meeting, I heard ONLY Mr. Minich express concerns of propriety, and he outlined a half dozen reasons why this was inappropriate in his view. of course at that point, the application had already been sent, approved and paid. The vote was 5 to 2 to approve, Winegar not voting, but approving.

I predicted that Clancy had something to do with it. He hasn't learned anything, in spite of having brought the whole Wetlands mitigation upon the HOA in the same manner, that costing the community 10s of thousands of dollars in fines, legal costs, and mitigation land purchases. His actions also resulted in the Water Warehouse being built 8 inches lower to save money on gravel (contrary to engineers specs) and requiring building a drainfield around the new structure when it flooded the first Winter.

The BOT does nothing to restrain this joker, but we need Federal money IN CASE we might fall short on assessments. Mr. Minich pointed out that the HOA has "the power of the lien to collect unpaid fees, with interest".

These owners undoubtedly know that this is prohibited, and are challenging the County and State to do something about it. That's what I was referring to in my previous comment, that there is this notion that the local or State government has no authority to limit citizen's rights - be it the Shoreline Plan, which is several years old, OR State restrictions due to the Pandemic.

The POTUS has given this kind of attitude the green light, by fomenting protests against Governors who are left to set policy and guidance for their States, based on the recommendations of health experts.

Altering the dunes against State law is a crime, and it is more than obvious that it is a selfish intrusion on other shoreline owners, is shortsighted, and ignores the simple fact that nature will prevail. There is a growing belief that the wishes & preferences of humans can somehow erase Covid 19 without a vaccine, ignore government laws and scientific truth.
