Water Plant Tour & Open House

You don't want to miss this...Well worth the time.

Saturday August 17, 2019 1 PM.
This is something that you will want to attend.
You will be impressed, as I was, in your water operation. There is so much more than just the water being pumped out of a hole in the ground and being there when you turn the tap on.
You will see the pride your water employees have from the care of the facilities and care of equipment in providing safe reliable drinking, and irrigation water.   You will leave with a better understanding and appreciation for the complexities in a water operation. You will also understand why the funding and management is so very important. I hope the well field will also be open for members to visit.

This seems like a neat effort to bring useful knowledge to the members who are curious about how the system is managed, tested for purity, and pumped throughout the community. I also like the idea of creating pride of ownership among members, and reason to continue our own independent Water Dept., separate from North Beach. Members built this system with their dollars, and have earned the right to water without being billed monthly. It needs to stay that way !

On the other hand, it is ironic that the HOA is pretending to be open about HOA operations, when the BOT has yet to outline the management failures that led to EPA fines for mishandling Asbestos, needless exposure of workers, failure to provide worker protections, Federally required reviews of safety precautions, and failed permitting in a wetland.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been spent on fines and legal counsel, and the on-going EPA criminal investigation, yet the BOT has refused to detail the debacle, or clarify the costs to owners in Surfside.

Transparency of all community HOA expenditures is the law folks, and having a Water Dept. Funfest does not substitute for the information owners are due after more than a year of stonewalling the membership on this.

Well said, Steve

Steve, you are a real party pooper. Please feel free to miss the open house. Stay at home and whine via your keyboard. I was at the annual meeting. James Clancy explained the permit issue and Bill Neal added clarity. It is really a shame you are so bent on tearing down our volunteers. Nobody is perfect, well except maybe you.

4:12. If you believed those explanations you are very naive and that leads to your uninformed mouthing off. The annual meeting was nothing more than a bad joke.

4:12...You obviously have previous issues with my opinions, as I said this was potentially an interesting opportunity for some owners. I've toured the Waterworks twice, and am well informed of what they do there, and am appreciative of what the Water Dept. folks do. So you can hold your grudge for another time.

Presumably you are on the Board and have a problem with criticism of the Board's intention to keep members in the dark about the vast sums of money that have been wasted due to Board incompetence and lack of Water Dept. oversight. Mr. Clancy attempted to explain the permitting issue, but was totally unaware of the many complications that took place after his term expired a year ago, due to his failed actions to speed the permitting process by firing the Wetlands assessment contractor, and handling it himself.

Mr. Neal had the integrity to point out that much had happened that Mr. Clancy was not aware of, but gave a soft sell description of what is actually a very big deal.

A new company had to be contracted to do what had been cut short by Clancy to assess the permitting situation, and currently the State requires that Surfside designate an area 12 times the size of the Water Dept. to be converted to Wetlands, a pretty ridiculous and impractical expectation, considering the entire community was converted from wetlands, and much of the HOA property is unbuildable due to wetland restrictions.

You are poorly informed whoever you are, and the Board of Trustees continues to pretend that the members of the Association don't need to know how much money has been spent on unnecessary legal counsel, or how much has been paid in fines to State L&I, and Asbestos abatement. The BOT is being dishonest with the members and you can't defend a cover-up that is now in year two of Board denial.

No one is perfect and certainly not me, but we all make mistakes, and what makes the difference in the long run is WHO admits to these mistakes, and is willing to make amends. The Board seems to have no such conscience or concern for their responsibility to the members. Mistakes that have cost the members possibly as much as a couple of hundred thousand dollars have been made, and much of the cost sublimated and hidden away in the numbers offered to the members. Some has been covered by expensive HOA insurance.

The point being, these are NOT minor glitches of no significance, and nice little tours of gardens and Waterworks are no substitution for transparency and honesty. This could have all been dealt with above board, but instead it has been hidden, and that is despicable at this point. No excuses whoever you are. (I have a pretty good idea who).

I think Steve should join the water committee and set everyone straight.

You don't have to be a board member to participate in the community.

It's much easier to armchair quarterback what other people do for the community. Maybe if Steve was a participant, he wouldn't be so critical of others mistakes.

Not a Board Member said...

Exactly 10:17 and thank you for your comment.

I always find it interesting when people disagree with any mostly negative comments they are accused of being board members. Believe it or not there are people that aren't on the board who don't agree with you. The past election is proof.

Another thing is how some people say the board isn't giving out information but when they do the same say it isn't true and not to trust it.

I also don't understand how all the blame of the water issue is placed on the board yet the water guy Neal gets a past.

And to 6:43's comment. You have made accusations at people before and were wrong so with the law of averages I guess you might actually know who. But with the history I have doubts.

I agree that Steve should get a spot on the water committee. Then, after he becomes really informed about what has happened in the past and what is being done now, he can post an apology on this blog for all of his conspiracy theories and false accusations. There is nothing worse than a loud mouth who doesn’t know what he thinks he knows.

11:32 your statement about the BOT is a double negative, so hard to understand what you wanted to say, but if you believe being on the Board is a mandate and represents the community, you are very mistaken. Consider that out of over 2000 potential votes, only 277 were cast. In spite of the massive electioneering of the J Place three and the chair of the Tree Committee (obvious personal agenda there) the top vote getter was only able to garner 192 votes out of the 277. The other J Placers got even less, so that means that in spite of their efforts, not all drank the entire glass of the Kool Aid they were peddling. Clancy's vain attempt to blame everyone else for his incompetence in handling the water building issue had me laughing, and Mr Neal was right there ready to place the blame on everyone else but him. We are forced to live with this incompetence for at least another year. Also, why is the HOA looking for a desk for the Compliance Officer and a used refrigerator for the office when one of the newly re-elected Trustees is willing to spend $300k on a project that should probably run about $30k. But already $45k has been spent without a single shovel turn.

So 5:35 knows it all? Wonder how that can be? Hmmm.

Three comments all in a row, quite put out that I am stating the facts regarding the permitting and the cover-up. My information came directly from a Board member, Larry Raymer.

One claims to have attended the Annual Meeting, and heard Mr. Clancy's explanation, and was satisfied. Mr. Neal contradicted what Mr. Clancy said, but that didn't catch your notice, because Neal was mushy and unspecific in his comments. And I'm certainly not "giving Neal a pass". He just had the balls to tell the crowd that beyond what Clancy had knowledge of, other complications had developed.

"Conspiracy theories" huh ? You are all so indignant in your blind allegiance to the BOT, you are afraid of the truth, and the Board is more than willing to keep it to themselves. That's NOT how the Board of Trustees are supposed to purport themselves.

You are so pitiful in your searching for ways in which to discredit me for telling the facts straight from a Trustee who knows. This has nothing to do with "thinking I'm right", or my "having disrespect for volunteers" you sad little deniers. The Board is so invested in a total cover-up at this point, that Clancy didn't even know what had transpired !

As I have stated but you choose to ignore, people make mistakes. What makes the difference in the long run, is WHO is willing to step up and admit to their mistakes and do something to rectify those mistakes. I have served as a Board member in my Lacey HOA, and don't have to serve on a committee to set my head right. If you aren't honest in your actions as a volunteer, you are NOT making a useful contribution, volunteer though you may be.

Surely, most Board and Committee members DO make a contribution, and serve honorably, and we are all grateful for their service. But the State requires that business be conducted transparently and openly. The Board president Williams has blatantly mislead owners with false information, an active cover-up has continued into a second year of stonewalling, and that puts the entire Board in the position of being dishonest and failing in their required duties as Trustees. This needs to STOP.

Thanks Steve. Your so right on and express the facts in a clear manner that we can all understand. I wish I had your ability to write in such a clear and concise way. I am grateful that you continue to share information in spite of continual personal attacks. I have seen many members over the years, give up and walk away in frustration. Please keep up the good work of informing the members, at least those who follow this blog. Your discussion is exactly what the blog was designed for, A discussion and sharing of information.

Fed Up said...

The MAFIA/ELITISTS/TREE KILLERS/GOOD OLD BOYS have found a new SHOA member, Steve, to harass and belittle and mock just like these creeps did with Patrick and Deb. I only hope that what goes around comes around for you bimbos. You are shameful and have NO integrity whatsoever.

Anonymous said...

Is it okay to attack, belittle and harass committees, committee members, board members and anything related to these three? Yes Fed Up it certainly is on this blog. Those who can see only one side to issues are narrow minded. The narrow minded often attack rather than negotiate. I honestly think that narrow minded individuals are often shameful and they often lack integrity.

Think about it - - - Steve has made a damned fool of himself on this blog more than once. What went around has come around if you are paying attention.

631 - you are truly a piece of work.
You make a fool of yourself out here daily, shucking for your buddies. You promote self interest, nothing more.

Those who oppose your self serving BS are branded malcontents. What a crock!

We see you for what you truly are - angry and bitter. Just go away.

Anonymous said...

Won't go away. I'm one of the good citizens and good neighbors who keep my property in compliance with all covenants. You angry, bitter, nasty trouble makers need to go away. Your buyer's remorse is not the concern of the rest of the members. It is your problem. Make the best of it and move to where you fit in better. You do not have the right or power to change the covenants to suit your personal preferences.

Anonymous said...

But you have the right n power to keep them the same in perpetuity? Far as power, that will be changing soon.
