2018 Spending Over Budget

Where spending was over and under...

While it probably is no surprise that spending in 2018 was over budget, what is surprising is that it was not as much as I expected.  As in the several previous years, it was the misc. income that kept us in the black.

You are 100% better informed than the rest of the members and probably most of the Board, until they read this blog.

The operating budget was  $1,287,992.00
Amount spent                     $1,350,907.60  (subject to increase or adjustment by audit)
                                           ------------------
Amount over budget               $62,915.60

What saved our ass was misc. income of $133,838.82  This is what put us in the black.

Expenditures by department:

Business Office
3,175.87 over budget

Administrative
51,673.48 over budget  (mostly legal expense)

Water Department
6,889.63 over budget

Patrol
337.44 under budget.  (Total spent was 71,397.56)

Compactor
6,707.30 over budget

RV storage site
3,362.11 under budget

Surfside Activities  (Annual meeting, fish derby, appreciation dinner, etc)
1,752.79 under budget of 10,900

Note....
Other than the legal fees, you would have to give a passing grade on spending amounts budgeted.
It would have been nice to have had more left over funds to put into the reserve fund, or pay down the debt on the carbon treatment plant.  All in all, not a bad year.

Thank you very much George!

Any member that is interested can get the same info as is posted here. I will give you credit for making it easier to see for the few members that come on here though. But to say that it makes people here more informed than the Trustees is a bit of a stretch.

Let's face it 6:18 PM. Many if not most of the readers/posters here want to be spoon fed everything. While not perfect the information is usually out there. Easier to bitch and moan or keep your head in the sand (probably can't used the word I intend).

Most of the Board doesn't take the time to read their Board packet, and would not understand a financial report if they read it. Please tell me where the financial information is out there? How much discussion of the financial reports is there ever made at a Board meeting? Very little if any. Wanting to be "spoon fed everything" is false and disrespectful to the "readers/posters here". The two comments above are clearly from the same person, and most likely a Board member. The members should not have to search for information, that if even there, is probably incomplete or false. Your statement "while not perfect" "is usually out there" is certainly an understatement.

Look at what you just wrote. You have no problem being condescending and disrespectful to people who serve on the board and on committees so spare me the woe is me attitude about your readers

The information is out there in the same place you got it. Unless of course you pulled it out your backside. Go ahead now and light a cig and hit the delete key again.

George performs a public service by posting this information.

As to the condescending portion, let's examine - "few members that come on here" - by my observation, that number continues to grow weekly. That should be a concern, as your Board cannot control the information.

As to the Trustees, they don't set the bar very high. If more attention was put into running the association as opposed to jobbing the story, we'd all be better off.

9:49 AM you have no idea if the numbers are growing or not. Anonymous posts like yours and mine could be from a handful of people with time on their hands after reading the Enquirer. And unless George has a secret Deep Throat or two his information is coming from Board or committee sources, Spoon fed is still the best description.

Have you seen anything that remotely resembles communication on these tooics from the Board? No, me either.

George is still the best source of information, as your buddies don't see the need.

It doesn't follow that because someone makes a critique of the HOA Board that they should be willing to serve on the Board. If the Board were to be recalled and needed to be reconstructed, that would likely bring more candidates out for the election. Members have a right to have expectations of the BOT's performance, and to voice their opinions and concerns, no strings attached.

Having criticisms, when respectfully submitted, is just making observations or suggestions. Disrespecting that right is to not care about the people the BOT serves. Those who choose to serve on the Board should accept that criticism is always part of the position.
