An anonymous comment this morning caught my attention.

"I haven't heard anybody say they don't enjoy living here. You deal with it"
This seems to be the prevailing attitude of a majority of members. It is this mindset of "you deal with it" that contributes to major problems.
As the major issues become more public, as they are now, we may see a change in this kind of thinking. "you deal with it" would be OK, if there was someone to deal with it. Do you think 9 members sitting around a Board room table will deal with it? They have failed time and again to make decisions or take actions that are a benefit for the entire association.
A General Manager, or having a management company come in, will solve nothing as long as the Board continues as they have done in the past and continue to do today. Covenants with enforcement and needed changes will remain and the Board will continue to set policy.
There can be no effective changes until the Board is replaced. A fresh start is needed.

As long as dogs in the office garner more attention than informing the membership of fines and impending investigations, we are all doomed to suffer the consequences of the idiots, both the board and office personnel. They squander our money, refuse to adhere to the by-laws of the organization, keep secrets from the membership, and continue like nothing is wrong. Let's all join Deb in holding them accountable for their actions and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law before it's to late.
Deb, have u set up a website for this drive? I’m all in as many, many other members are also! Please post the site for all. I’ll spread the word to my neighbors who don’t have a clue what’s going on. They pay their dues and don’t relive where their funds are going.
Since when do you have to get approval by shoa for “ANY” remodeling as stated in weekender?
10:13. I’m not a website guru but am setting up a site. It will be a Google site and when the holidays are over I will keep working on it. Anyone with website design skills would be a big help. I made this comment on another post today:
We already have someone working on the mailing list. We figure we will have one good chance to get the membership’s attention with a letter - outlining the mismanagement, investigations, fines and legal expenses to be borne by the members. Hopefully those who are not very engaged in HOA activities and elections will be motivated by their pocketbooks!
We will also provide the URL to the website in the letter, where members will be able to read the documentation being gathered to expose the Board and to engage in planning & discussion. We will be asking for donations to pay for the mailing - with a reduced bulk rate we should be able to send it out to all ~2200 members for under $700. Many members have already reached out to me via email (surfside.debblagg@gmail.com) offering to help.
I am hoping we can arrange a meeting or teleconference in early Jan. I’m also looking for people willing to help with technology, leadership, legal skills, etc., as well as others to share the task of administering the website and being spokesmen for the cause. As many of you know, my name has been so maligned by the status quo that my reputation is tainted. I don’t want this to impede our efforts, so we would really be served best by volunteers with neutral reputations, including full-timers and part-timers.
