Member Request...updated

We will see where this goes....and what will happen.

Update....
You may have noticed the work going on, on the North end of the West end of Bear Lake (Twin Lakes).  These lakes that are owned by the association, have not been maintained for years. Thanks to mainly James Clancy, they are finally getting the needed attention they deserve.

From what I am hearing, the Lands and Buildings Committee will continue with maintenance and improvements to association property. They need to be applauded for their efforts and encouraged to continue. Surfside association owned property should set a good example of how members should care for their property. Well cared for property helps to maintain the livability and property values of the entire community.

DPR Builders has been contracted to remove the trees that are in the lake.  They have also done this in other parts of this lake as well as cleaning it's outfall on 320th. Some of the trees fell in the lake and some were due to beaver activity.  At the present location they are working, brush and trees have been removed which opens up the view. As with all association owned waters, there was once a boat launch in this location.

Click on each picture for a larger view. The muddy water is from the tree and logs removal.  It will clear once the activity is completed.

There are so many places in Surfside that need attention. As noted in previous blog topic, the association is nowhere near in compliance with its own covenants. Why anyone would fish in any waters in Surfside is beyond understanding with the nitrates, pesticide chemicals and septic waste in the these waters. The annual fish plantings are a waste of funds for the perverse pleasure of a few misguided anglers.

Clean up the lakes and canal and hopefully increase boating and floating activities instead. Catch and release seems inhumane anyway. Anything you catch would be grateful to be removed from our waterways.

I see nothing wrong with your request. Couldn't cost more than a couple thousand. Any improvements made in Surfside should be met with positive feedback. After all, it's our neighborhood.

I believe Bob Hoskins (sp?) had wanted to plant panfish in this lake, which sounds like a nice idea. It's a lot of fun to fish for Sunfish, Bluegills, Crappie, and Pumpkinseeds. A potential downside is that people tend to leave tackle wrappers and such everywhere. But I would support the idea.

Steve,

I did plant warm water fish. We put in Bass, bluegill, crappie and catfish in twin lakes.

There was screens on all the SHOA outflows to keep the fish in place during the winter high water and it was the on call person's job to make sure all the outflow screens were clear during their morning route around Surfside.

I see people want to put fish in the super shallow Bear lake. This would be a waste, it is simply not a good body water to support a gainful fish population. It is too shallow and warm it also also has such low oxygen level that the fish would more than likely not survive.

I guess Bob and I have to agree to disagree.
After the warm water fish were stoked in Bear Lake. On many occasions I noted very many fish breaking the surface water. Members also told me of catching fish there. The canal is no deeper than Bear Lake. You also don't see the growing stuff there that you see in the canal.

Deer Lake, by my place, often described as a "mud hole", also has fish in there now. I don't know what kind they are, but they are good sized. At east 10 inches long. Maybe mud carp, don't know. I have seen them breaking water and seen them below the surface. This lake also has no gook growing in it as the canal and Seabreeze has. As I said many times before, Deer and Bear lakes are muddy every spring because the ducks arrive back and are digging for food on the bottom. This lasts about a month and both are clear now with no water running into it. I guess I will have to go fishing to prove what I say.

George,

Jacks has the worms and I expect to see pictures of your catch prior to releasing them :)

I have not read the bloq in a couple of months and see it has taken a nasty turn. With the name calling and unproductive comments wow. Some of you should just stay in bed and away from your computers, you would be doing us all a big favor.
