COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMITTEE

Minutes of May 4, 2021 CRC Meeting...No Annual Picnic?

The meeting came to order at 1:05 pm. Members Present: Louise Purdin, Joanne McMurphy, Carole Homer, John Williams, Jole Williams, Kirby Smith and Annette de Leest.

1. Marta Towne, Surfside Librarian, has offered to save older and duplicate paperbacks from our library for our committee to sell at a future event (chili cookoff) Proceeds could go to a local charity.

2. The committee voted for the 2021 Golf Scramble Scholarship winners. Those names will be announced in June.

3. A $100 donation will be made to the American Legion. They will be invited to conduct the flag ceremony on Memorial Day at the Veterans Park beginning promptly at 8:30 am.

4. An update was given by Louise and Kirby for the golf tournament. The Ilwaco High School industrial arts program will once again engrave the golf prizes. The grand prize for the raffle has been purchased and received. Volunteer help will be needed on June 11, for setup and June 12 for help with registration and prizes.

5. Members approved a donation of $500 to Grassroots for the beach cleanup dumpster.

6. Louise will reorder Surfside pens for the Welcome Bags

7. The committee was advised that Tracy has requested CRC and member volunteers to help with the Surf n Sider mailing in June.

8. Paint n Sip. Originally, we discussed doing this activity for our members. However, the Peninsula Senior Center has decided to sponsor the event. It is scheduled for June 5, 2021. Since it is not a Surfside Event, we will not promote it as such.

9. Due to covid restrictions there will be no Annual Picnic this year so committee preparation will not be needed. However, Tracy may ask us to purchase individually wrapped breakfast items for the Annual Meeting. Options may include food from Kash & Karry, Costco or Okies (for example: Babybell or laughing cow cheese, muffins and mini bagels). Tracy would appreciate a call or email from members who plan to attend the meeting in person. A location has not been set yet.

10. Diane Mangel has offered to do her card making class on 8/28/21. The December class was canceled due to the pandemic. Depending on interest, there will be (2) classes given that day! She will make a flyer for the Weekender and Cabanas boxes

11. The meeting was adjourned at 2:20 pm

12. Next meeting will be 6/1/21@1pm in the boardroom.

Our state should be fully open by June 30th. Why are we not planning an annual picnic? How long are we going to keep using Covid as an excuse? Perhaps you could have asked the members what they wanted when you posted your flyer about attending the annual meeting, but nobody care what members want, right.

Just to point out the obvious Rhonda, that flyer WAS about asking the members what they want!

Hopefully next year you people will be able to try and eat your dues in free burgers and dogs again!

@5:52...that flyer was simply asking if you were attending and nothing else

I guess we are looking at different flyers then. The one I read asked if you wanted an inside or outside meeting. I believe that is considered asking what a member wants! You know, the one somebody had to point out to you on another topic.

@6:21...maybe George should post the flyer.
Let us know if you are attending. It is being planned for either an inside venue- limited capacity or outside venue with possibility of a larger capacity.

So I'm correct, right?

Ronda F said...

If you feel you are correct and that's how you read it. Let us know if you are attending is opposite end of spectrum from asking what members want.

You are correct Ronda. The flyer was NOT about asking what members wanted. It was simply asking if they were planning to attend and stated the event was being planned for either inside our outside. So NO 6:21 you are NOT correct. It didn't ask if members wanted inside or outside. It asked if members were planning to attend.

The 5:52 comment is pretty telling isn't it? Rather than thinking members want the picnic because they enjoy socializing with other members, 5:52 seems to imply that anyone who wants the picnic is a pig who just wants free food.
Yikes!!! Really hope 5:52 isn't a board or committee member.

It was not the decision if the CRC to not have the picnic.

So, WHO?

Yes JoAnne.....I was just about to post that I thought the 'no picnic' decision was administrative. It would have been nice to tentatively proceed with the preparation should restrictions be lifted. But I do recognize it's a pretty labor intensive event so that could be difficult. The picnic is a really nice event where members get to meet and chat with the newly elected board and other residents.

I'd also like to say that the CRC is our BEST committee. It is the shining light of Surfside. Always endeavoring to DO GOOD THINGS!!! Kudos to the CRC member!!!!!

And no I'm not a member of the committee. Just someone who appreciates it.

Nice try Rhonda and 9:13 but unfortunately both of you are wrong and need to reread the flyer that is on the website that was posted 3-29-2021.

It clearly states that they are "planning" on either an inside or outside venue. That means they hadn't decided yet, right? On it you can put down if you want to attend an outside or inside meeting. The majority of people would consider that a choice, but I guess you both aren't in the majority.

So using your "logic" a question. If it isn't a choice, does that mean they will be having an inside AND an outside meeting?

JoAnne said...

It was not giving you a choice. They were trying to get a feeling as to which would be more attended and also weather could be an issue. They were trying their best to try and plan with all the uncertainty.

@5:32 I do not need to re-read anything. What I wrote at 6:50 came straight off the flyer put in the weekender.

Yes JoAnne, they were trying to get a feeling as to which you would CHOOSE to go to.

And sorry again Rhonda, but you left out the part on the flyer where you had to CHOOSE which one you would attend, the inside or outside.

OMG!!!! it was an attempt at a simple head count. Let it go!!!! But I am curious to find out how many people respond and how many people actually show up.

How to have your husband back home with your kids again

I was told to get a love spell doctor to help me out, which I did . I was lucky to get DR.OKOYE Contact who was able to help me out, he cast a love spell that brought back my husband to me and to my kids thanks so much DR.
