Be a good neighbor...
The storm that moved thru Surfside this early morning put the power out from 6 am to 8 am. If you see damage on a neighbors property, please let them know. You can also contact the office and report it to them so that they can report it to the member. A tree top blew down and briefly blocked the road on 324th Place at Deer Lake. A motorist removed the tree to the street shoulder. Be careful driving around Surfside.

Fake news. Trees don't blow down in Surfside according to the experts.
Enjoy those huge trees up on the ridge with these winds.
I hope some trees on J Place blow down onto their homes. They'll really like their view then.
The tree policy is illegal. The covenants say nothing about protecting views.
Since it says nothing about views how is it illegal? It just states that the trees have to be the same height as the structures height requirement.
There is a structure height for the same reason as trees. Both covenants should be elliminated. Maximum county height is 35 feet from ground level, not the crown of the road as in surfside. If 35 feet was allowed, many more members would have an upper story view, at least in part. That is termed, Partial Ocean View.
Good thing George's neighbors slaughter their trees and left stumps, saving his home from any damage. Thankfully my neighbors follow the covenants also saving me from any damage.
George's neighbor's trees were 8 to 10 inch diameter conifers, planted in a row, less than 2 feet apart. They had been planted as a screen, but were not appropriate for that purpose. They should have been cut down when half the size. It has nothing to do with George. They had to come down.

If it is true that the covenants state that trees should match the same height
as structures, then why do Surfside members living on the East side of J with
trees much higher than their homes not have to trim their trees. Also Surfside members living on the east side close to the dump why are there trees taller than their homes. There is only one reason homes west of J must cut their trees . View View View . Is our HOA Fair and equitable with Covenants? I think we should challenge this in court
Lowlanders, just cut down your trees so we can have our view. Pine trees serve no purpose except to provide building lumber, can’t log out Surfside. Plant leafing trees, much better for the environment!
Even ornamental trees grow to about 20 feet tall or more. This "policy" does not allow for unmolested normal tree growth/health. The environmental impact is not significantly different deciduous to conifer. Most species will not grow in sand. Shorepines do, and that's why they are common in Coastal areas.
Trees will grow anywhere with water and care, there are many leafing trees that grow in the 12 to 20 foot range. Shore pines were seeded here to stop erosion and really they are an ugly tree! Cut them all down and plant trees with leaves that actually contribute to the environment and that GREEN feel. Blue Spruce are a much prettier pine tree!
Like I said, there are no tree varieties that do not grow to 20 or more feet. There are miniscule dwarf varieties of conifer that don't really qualify, are expensive and challenging to grow anywhere. Salty Coastal weather is also detrimental to many plants health. All trees start small, so yeah, height varies, but mature growth (25 to about 225 ft.) is over Surfside limits, about 12 feet in some mini-divisions.

This has been said before, most of those tall trees you see east of J are not on the owners property.
The area on the east side do not have the same covenants that is why they have higher trees. I know of some over there who would like to have the same limits as the west side. Maybe they should take your advice and challenge it in court.
I'm confused about Cox's comments. He has stated in the past that the trees don't block views because they don't get over 20 ft. People, myself included have disagreed with his statements and provided proof. Now he admits that they do get over 20 ft??
Cox, under 20 ft or 20 ft? Which one? Please inform us.
I've stated that Shorepines max out height at about 30 ft. They're not programmable, so vary, most not getting that tall. Closer to the beach stunts and pushes the trees away from the prevailing winds. ALL the trees in the community have been topped at least once, which stunts growth in height. Your memory of what I have said is entirely false. Trees on G St. Do not block views of the Ocean. They appear about 3/8 of an inch in height from the ridge 3 blocks away. Dunes over 20 ft.high have debeloped over the 50 years of Surfside existence, and the surf has moved about 300 yards west. There is no purpose in enforcing the current tree height restrictions, and the covenants do NOT protect anyone's views.
@11:48, explain why the east side follows different covenants than the west side???
Aren't we all Surfside? Why the difference in rules?
Is it because miss Peggy doesn't want to go into area 52 where all the druggies are...

If you would have only ask the covenant question I would have been happy to educate you as to why. But since you had to take it a step further with the silly and unnecessary insult at the end, which has nothing to do with the subject since it predates her, I'm not going to bother.
Sorry Cox, once again it is YOUR statement that trees on G don't block views that is entirely false, as anyone with eyes can plainly see.
I'll use just one simple example that was discussed at a Board meeting. Go North of Oysterville road on J east of the condos on G. Can you see the Ocean through them, NO. The lowest height of the units is 30 ft. Now look at the trees that are just north. There are some that are higher than them. Can you see the ocean through them, NO. Now maybe you can see the ocean over them if you are on one of the top floors of a J pl house but you can't from the ground.
While you're there look north of the HOA border where there are no covenants. There are many trees that block out the ocean and extend above the horizon, which I doubt you can see even from a top floor.
So step away from your keyboard and go use your eyes. I doubt you will and will continue to repeat your false statement and I will be be back to repeat my factual response.
Uh, thought it wasnt about the views. Which cant be legally protected. What about it all being about safety? Cant have it both ways, cept i guess in soviet republic of surfside.
@ 11:48
Please help to educate all of us ignorant people! We all belong to the same HOA and all pay the same yearly dues per lot but yet there are a multitude of different rules depending on which Block and Lot you own. It appears no one cares what goes on East side of J Place due that’s where the Garbage Compactor and nasty RV storage lot is! To add to that NO ONE that lives on J Place can see the Bay so who cares. In reality it comes down to the views that are not protected by the covenants, maybe the lowlanders West of J would like a view of the Sun and Moon rising but can’t due to all the tall trees and glaring lights at night!
The market is good right now. I hope you get moved before Surfside's water system gets into trouble with the state and Surfside's reputation tanks.
I'm estatic. My sale closed and I got my money last Friday. I'm out this s-hole hoa.
Thanks for showing me the way Patrick and Deb!
Should have sold to Clancy, hear he's looking to buy up property and paying top dollar. Creating his own autonomous zone in Surfside, seceeding and declaring himself ocean views for all that support him.

Please enlighten all of us stupid people as 10:27 asked, I am sure someone has all the the answers that will make us all feel warm and fuzzy and believe everything the BOT has to say!
No silly and unnecessary insults here, just looking for a logical and legal explanation?
You are up next, since you must obviously watch this blog!
