What Would You Do If..

On a dark night if....

There was a lurking figure in the street, pointing something at your house?
We have many veterans and other members who have arms, and just might see this as threatening.   I know that I would.  A homeowners dog could also attack. You could call 911, but the response time if any, could be to late.  This could happen.

What brings this to mind is a few lines and notation in the March Financial Report.

Trans. number 1281  03/19/2020  James Clancy  Amount Memo 164.30
Reimburse  purchase of light meter for ARC  (Architecture Committee)

So what is this all about?  I didn't know that the lighting issues had been settled.
The last posting of any kind of committee minutes was 1/25/2020
While the amount is small, this committee does not have a budget.   Is this a Clancy decision without any approval?  He has always thought that he could do anything, on his own, that he wanted.  This sends a signal that a light meter is going to be use, and probably by him (I hope) during the night in front of a members house, and a complaint be generated.

He tried to get a position on the executive committee, but the other Board members did one of their smart things, they voted NO.  So they made him the trustee to the Architecture Committee. That was a mistake, but they had to put him somewhere.  Whenever that happens, it becomes a one man operation.  His.

Wake up Board. Wake up President Winegar. Are you letting this become a one man Board?  You need to control this out of control  Board member.

If we the members are not seeing any minutes, the rest of the Board is not also. Maybe the General Manager will at least get some current information to the members, like he has promised.  Only places you can get any information is on two social media sites "Surfside Facebook" and a blog called "Surfside Chat"  The members deserve more and better than those two choices.

Hey folks, I don't make this stuff up.

Of course I’m going to comment on this! I saw this on the agenda and couldn’t believe it! So now someone is going to go out at night and measure our lumens? For what reason? Nothing has changed concerning the lighting covenant as far as we know, so why this measure? Until the members can be caught up on what exactly is going on, we will be confused and worried!
How long before we will ever be made aware of the activity of the committees? The minutes should have been posted way before now!
We’ll see if we get another lighting complaint after receiving a letter in March telling us we’re in compliance!
It says nothing in the current covenants about measuring lumens! Where did this come from?

This is just another Clancy thing. They can seem to find the funds for a laser measuring thing and now a light measuring thing, while they can't seem to afford a flag at Veterans Park. They have time, way to much time, to answer every dumb thing on their Facebook page, but can't seem the time to post the minutes. What a place. Members association? Not anymore.

well, I'm certainly not going to shoot at a person who points at my house at night, but wish I could if I found out it was the light police!

Mr. Williams made it clear that the BOT was expecting to use a device to measure lumens as a means of monitoring light use and practical wattages for owner needs. He also indicated that the BOT had determined that keeping the Lighting covenant mostly in it's original form should work, with different wording relating to property lines and saturation beyond individual properties.

The problem is really as JoAnne states, absolutely no transparency or reference to who has been working on the reworking of this covenant, so zero indication of how the lumens meter would be employed, and when, or a given threshold.

It's counter-productive to hold a successful community review as took place last January, field comments about the lack of transparency in planning a rewrite, and make promises of a practical guideline, then follow it by meeting secretively and without published minutes for nearly 4 months.

Mr. Minich told me that anyone who claims the BOT and HOA are not transparent "is on a fool's mission". So basically, screw you if you don't like it. Is that really how it needs to be ? What's going on with the Deputy replacement ? There has been but one statement by Mr. Winegar, which basically said, "we'll let you know when we have a deal". Who would be deciding that, given the ridiculous proposal the Sheriff gave us - "take it or leave it" ?

George - Kerry and I just got our Stimulus check in the mail today. As proud veteran's and former residents and proponents of the Veteran's Park we would be honored to purchase a flag in remembrance of our 15 years in Surfside. Seriously if the HOA can't fund the fifty bucks to keep the flag pristine then we will do it.
