These pictures were taken today, 4/24/2019 at Veterans Park. It has never looked better than it does today. Our grounds keeper, Toby, sorry I don't know his last name, has brought back a sparkle that we can all be proud of. The hard work and pride that Toby does in his work clearly shows. Thanks Toby.
As some know, I had the honor to be the designer of this park. One of the better things I did in the "old days". Even with this kind of project, there was a lot of opposition. It was a fight all the way to get something accomplished. I remember a Board President who said, "We don't want more grass to mow". Well we got it now and even have new sprinklers installed.
Several garage sales raised all the funds to buy the landscaping plants. Volunteers did the planting. Staff and employees all participated in the project as well as many members who donated goods for the garage sale. There is more that can be done at this site, but today is a day to appreciate what we have now.

Damn George, Looking very NICE!
Very nice, looks like a cool place to have a sandwich and a bottle of wine.
I'll have to check this out. Usually just drive on by. I appreciate the green grass. Every vet knows what makes the green grass grow.
When you check it out, go to the bench by the water and read the inscription. Many don't know it's there or what it says.
After looking at these photos and thinking about what they represent. I remember back to my sophomore year in high school. The boy who lived across the street was killed in Vietnam and I will never forget the sacrifice that family and he made to our country. They stopped the war my senior year and I never had to go. So I think it never get said enough Thank you to all that served and thank you George I know you worked hard to get that park built.
A time to get the word out that Memorial Day and Veteran's Day there is always a short celebration at the park to honor and remember all who served. I know we all have obligations elsewhere or have friends/family down but an hour of our day should be possible for some of us. When we are outnumbered by the Legion and Elks who give up their time to travel to our site it casts a bad reflection on all of us. Thanks for listening.
There is no observance on Veterans day, just Memorial Day. There should be. How about a picnic with music at this site. This would give the members a chance to visit and thank the Veterans. Memorial Day is a somber event, as it should be, but Veterans Day could be a happy celebration.
This is really nice. Sweet. Thank you George. Something as innocent as a moment to say thank you. A simple gesture. No politics. Just we are here and this is nice. I think that kind of community building exercise eclipses the opinions and thrashing around we do on this blog - which is also necessary - don[t get me wrong.
