I see 2 out of the 4 that might do us some good. Dan and Marily. Gary needs to go already and Tom is nothing but a know it all and thinks he is a dictator. I personally would like to see term limits with every board position and committee position.
Or they can open it back up until the end of the month and encourage more to get their applications in. We honestly need term limits, some of these are life timers. Good to see a female will be on the board!
Since elections were delayed for no reason, most members are probably unaware of random election date. Not all are glued to, or even get the weekender, i live here full time n have requested it many times, but still dont get it.
There's no need to fake proxies. I don't buy the fraud claims. The so-called "Faction" is just a network of owners who all want the Tree Policy maintained at all cost, and in general, no significant changes made to policy. After a few successful elections, with only Johansen to gripe about, and Deb Blagg's appointment, the system is working to their satisfaction. They simply refused to appoint me to the vacated Chandler seat (in spite of this being set as precedent years before).
So yeah, the elections are in a sense "fixed", but nothing illegal. No one else has built an opposition party, and few members vote who are not part of the established network. Some if not all will deny this goes on, and say it's crazy talk. The results are not merely a matter of chance, so suggesting it is, IS crazy talk.
Steve, I disagree. Until I see true independent validation, I do not trust this group to hold an honest election. Too much has happened, with your not being brought on to the Board at the top of that list.
They will force William's on us once again, and need to pay for it.
Steve, do you ever have anything nice to say?? If you want on the board so bad, why did you not run this time around?? I hope they open it back up so we can see how much of a man you are and see if you fill out your application.

Anyone that brings up the term "fixed" is just spreading B.S. Every year it's the same, people complain about a network, faction or whatever ignoring the FACT that they are also the people who actually step up to donate their time for our community serving on the board and committees. Along with that they also have to deal with crap from the whiners and their insults.

Ronda....You don't know anything about me, and choose to focus on disagreements I have had with bloggers, nearly all anonymous. It's handy remaining anonymous - you can be as rude as you want without actually owning your comments. You wouldn't be addressing me the way you are, had I remained anonymous. Most of my comments are simply stating facts, whether you like the truth or not, just facts.
But I hear your ugly attitude, and I have to assume you are voting for the right people to maintain the Tree Policy, which has decimated the community and keeps the community muted, subdued. I'm sorry I played a significant part in preventing the lighting covenant from establishing an entirely new set of useless restrictions for you to deal with. You could be fumbling around in the dark, satisfied that none of your lights provide safe passage to and from your Surfside home.
If you actually knew what I have said about the election, you would be clear as to why I have no interest in serving on the BOT after essentially already being elected. You disclose your own nasty vengeful attitude by your comments. I often have positive things to say, enjoy my life, enjoy our Surfside residence, my familyand neighbors. I've met some really nice people like George, Larry Raymer, Patrick, Deb Blagg, April at the Water Dept., and many who are not nice people.
You are a shallow person to be wasting prayers wishing for bad things to happen to people you only know through a Blog. Do you honestly think your God listens to such nonsense ? I'm certain such prayers are never answered, though you may get struck by lightning instead. Thanks !

This is all my opinion. When I first learned of this blog, I thought it would be a forum where a group of members could come together and begin to right the Surfside ship. Then everybody never got to know each other, haters were allowed to harass, detract, and distract, and many attack each other. It's sad. I've lost all hope that a group of nine members can come together under one agenda.
It wasn't clear WHO you want to move away. All the same, what is to be will be, and it is a strange notion that praying to your God to bother with such silly stuff is appropriate. Someone's bound to move eventually, not me. "Big words" eh.
Cox repeatedly states Clancy fabricates false tree complaints each year. We find out Clancy might move. Cox can't even agree with others that Clancy moving is a good thing for Surgside. Typical Cox, it's all about him.

756 - volunteering time to pursue your own self-interest doesn't really count. The Committees are controlled by the same faction that control the board. The fix is in, and anyone who denies that is just not seeing reality.

Thanks! I was unaware that Williams term was up. I thought it was Winegar, DeLeest and Mark Scott terms were up, plus the vacant seats from Chandler. Guess I was incorrect!
So there's five. Cox is still next in line for Chandler's vacated seat. I can't find the information about each Trustee's term and when they expire. Of course not, right. They don't care if we know and they don't want us to know. Otherwise, they would publish the information!
The terms that were up are Williams, Winegar & deLeest. The other is Chandler's vacant spot. Scott has one more year. They did post how many spots were opened when they asked for candidates to submit their paperwork. It was also discussed at board meetings on who was leaving when they announced that they were going to stay on for a couple months. I don't see how it's a big issue in not knowing who exactly is leaving anyways.
Not everyone was asked to submit their paperwork. Not everyone goes to board meetings. He doesn't see how not being open and transparent with the owners is a big deal. I expect to find that information online. It's 2020 damn it! Why not do that?
@10:07, Thank You! I do not believe 9 members of our 2000+ community should be the voice for everyone. Im sick of Clancy costing us more and more every year. He knew long ago he had plans to leave Surfside. He has cost us an RV redesign study and now in turn that new RV area will cost members more, on top of paying more in yearly HOA fees. By the way, I am not an RV owner. He is to blame for the new 100,000 plus a year sheriff contract, again, way over budget. Now he will walk away, thank goodness, while we deal with his mess. I guess I could submit an application for his position and see if they accept it.
@12:49, yes I did submit an application for the 5th position that will be open. I dropped it through the Surfside mail slot at the office this morning.
Pretty sure it doesn't work like that @Ronda... I'm not aware that Clancy has resigned his position nor his intent to do so. Should that occur, the board will decide how to fill the position as has been done in the past. I'm sure Mr. Cox can fill us in. The deadline for applying for the known open positions has passed. Curious why you didn't apply then?
To Rhonda and 10:07 a reminder. When Patrick put his place up for sale before the election he didn't resigned. One of the main reasons was obviously he knew about the Blagg coup coming up at the anual meeting and wanted to remain on the board to finally steal his coveted majority.
@2:51, I am well aware of how it works. By the way, why you must hide yourself? I am aware Clancy has not resigned and will wait until his house sells. It may be days, weeks, months until its sells. I was just being ahead of the game should it sell fast and he leaves before November. Having a 5th position open, leaves us with an even number. Now the board knows I am interested, why handpick someone else. If it happens, it happens, if not, my panties will not be in a wad. Anything wrong with that? Did anyone else think of that? I do not owe you an explanation as to why I didn't apply earlier. What is going on in my life is not your business.
@Ronda - sensitive? There was nothing negative in my posting. The board doesn't hand pick candidates as evidenced by the folks who chose to run this year. Didn't say that you did owe me anything, just asked a question which often happens on a blog. A blog you frequently contribute to. Whether or not my question was posted as anonymous shouldn't matter.
@5:23, no I'm not sensitive. You pointed out it doesn't work like that. I am well aware, just wanted to be ahead of the game when the spot came open, as I already pointed out. I also am aware Clancy has yet to resign. You asked a question, I simply answered. Sorry if you thought I came across rude or sensitive. Far from it.
3:47....Blagg didn't plan long term as your imagination suggests. It was not a big evil plan plotted by a large group of radicals. There were many good reasons to call the BOT on the carpet after the asbestos cover-up, the wetlands/permiting cover-up, and the long period that obstacles were thrown in the way of establishing on-line voting. It was never given a chance to get off the ground in Surfside, yet on-line voting has become common in HOAs across the country.
Patrick had no reason to resign, nor does Clancy - because their property is listed. They are residents until the title changes. They are able to remain Trustees until they are no longer members.
No one has said that the Board or HOA prevents candidates from running, only that they always have their picks promoted to their "base". Williams and Rogers have both served previous terms, Rogers resigned in his 3rd year. He is a J pl. owner. Williams is an established disaster - down with the entitlements and preserving the status-quo, unconcerned about transparency, and seemingly incapable of properly transacting the simple processes of Board business.
I don't know the other 2 candidates. That could be a good thing, but most who are elected just follow along meekly, if not completely on board with the BOT agenda. All vacancies in the 4 years I've been a resident, have been filled by the candidate who had the most votes in the election. I was the only exception, and they just never addressed it - a violation of our covenants.
Chandler, Miller, Rogers, Johansen, and one other guy whose name I can't recall. So at least 4 Trustee seats before Chandler were filled by this means. Winegar was appointed in a May meeting to serve abiut 6 weeks before the election.
12:16....I appreciate your faith that a different attitude and approach could make Surfside a happier, better run community. My granddaughter lives 4 blocks away from my Lacey home, and we have her over a lot. She's about to turn 4, and is a lot of fun. I'm not willing to trade time with her for meetings in Surfside, especially given the BOT attitude toward the whisper of the word "change".
Maybe in a couple of years I may see it differently. The idea of giving service to the community is appealing, but really just in the abstract at this point. We can hope for new blood this election.

Yes he should have been following past practices and the by-laws. Article IV section 7. Any vacancy occurring in the board of trustees SHALL be filled by appointment by a majority of the remaining trustees. Right is right and wrong is wrong

Cox, Why did Annette accost you at the wood chipping site? I know that incident really shook you and causes you great harm. I would like to understand that incident more. I think that is one of the reasons you are not on the board. On the bright side, you really don't have time for our little hoa, you're sticking to retirement, you only have one tree and the tree policy doesn't impact you so you wouldn't bring it up if you were on the board, and you would rather spend time with your 4 year old granddaughter.
There are no clear requirements that the board must appoint the next candidate who had the most votes. Because they did it that way before doesn't mean it needs to be done that way in the future. 3:34.... Dear cowardly Trustee or Tree Comm. member. I never complained to the BOT about their "decision" not to seat me, even though the precedent had always been followed in practice. I know what the covenants say nit wit. What is clear is the Board's insistence on complete control of the BOT dialogue and agenda, even if they have to violate the Bylaws, which clearly REQUIRE the vacancy be filled.

2:39 - Trustee ? Sounds like it. You're shoveling a big scoopful right now. The BOT has been in constant cover-up mode for the last 2 years. Asbestos fines and Investigation, improper permitting and wetland mitigation, false claims paid by the Feds in 2 $10,000 grants, refusal to abide by the covenants and fill Mr. Chandler's vacancy. Hundreds of thousands of dollars pissed away fines, legal defense and bogus lawsuits with Patrick, and all of the escalated Tree Enforcement !
Chandler resigned days prior to the Oct. meeting, and no one mentioned it for some time. Tell me, in what meeting did the Board acknowledge Chandler's resignation ? I'm not sure they ever really did. So yeah, it is CLEAR that honesty is a foreign concept.
As you know, I have served on an HOA Board for 3 years, and had some success getting some good things done. I understand the dynamics of working as a group, or I wouldn't have been successful as an HOA Trustee. I wouldn't have run for the Surfside Board if I have a problem with discussion and opposing views. And no, I don't ever post anonymously.
I did a few times about 2 years ago, as Captain Crunch. The atmosphere got really nasty - mostly Trustees and Comm. members trashing Deb Blagg. Don't pretend you take the high road, everyone knows that isn't so.

ReplyDeleteWhen I first learned of this blog, I thought it would be a forum where a group of members could come together and begin to right the Surfside ship. Then everybody never got to know each other, haters were allowed to harass, detract, and distract, and many attack each other.
It's sad. I've lost all hope that a group of nine members can come together under one agenda.
It wasn't clear WHO you want to move away. All the same, what is to be will be, and it is a strange notion that praying to your God to bother with such silly stuff is appropriate. Someone's bound to move eventually, not me. "Big words" eh.

The terms that were up are Williams, Winegar & deLeest. The other is Chandler's vacant spot. Scott has one more year. They did post how many spots were opened when they asked for candidates to submit their paperwork. It was also discussed at board meetings on who was leaving when they announced that they were going to stay on for a couple months. I don't see how it's a big issue in not knowing who exactly is leaving anyways.

He knew long ago he had plans to leave Surfside. He has cost us an RV redesign study and now in turn that new RV area will cost members more, on top of paying more in yearly HOA fees. By the way, I am not an RV owner. He is to blame for the new 100,000 plus a year sheriff contract, again, way over budget. Now he will walk away, thank goodness, while we deal with his mess.

To Rhonda and 10:07 a reminder. When Patrick put his place up for sale before the election he didn't resigned. One of the main reasons was obviously he knew about the Blagg coup coming up at the anual meeting and wanted to remain on the board to finally steal his coveted majority.

There were many good reasons to call the BOT on the carpet after the asbestos cover-up, the wetlands/permiting cover-up, and the long period that obstacles were thrown in the way of establishing on-line voting. It was never given a chance to get off the ground in Surfside, yet on-line voting has become common in HOAs across the country.
ReplyDeletePatrick had no reason to resign, nor does Clancy - because their property is listed. They are residents until the title changes. They are able to remain Trustees until they are no longer members.
No one has said that the Board or HOA prevents candidates from running, only that they always have their picks promoted to their "base". Williams and Rogers have both served previous terms, Rogers resigned in his 3rd year. He is a J pl. owner. Williams is an established disaster - down with the entitlements and preserving the status-quo, unconcerned about transparency, and seemingly incapable of properly transacting the simple processes of Board business.
ReplyDeleteI don't know the other 2 candidates. That could be a good thing, but most who are elected just follow along meekly, if not completely on board with the BOT agenda. All vacancies in the 4 years I've been a resident, have been filled by the candidate who had the most votes in the election. I was the only exception, and they just never addressed it - a violation of our covenants.
Chandler, Miller, Rogers, Johansen, and one other guy whose name I can't recall. So at least 4 Trustee seats before Chandler were filled by this means. Winegar was appointed in a May meeting to serve abiut 6 weeks before the election.

12:16....I appreciate your faith that a different attitude and approach could make Surfside a happier, better run community. My granddaughter lives 4 blocks away from my Lacey home, and we have her over a lot. She's about to turn 4, and is a lot of fun. I'm not willing to trade time with her for meetings in Surfside, especially given the BOT attitude toward the whisper of the word "change".

Because they did it that way before doesn't mean it needs to be done that way in the future. Cox is a tool and it was clear his only intent is to cause trouble, not to work together for the greater good. That is why he didn't receive his "rightful" appointment.

As you know, I have served on an HOA Board for 3 years, and had some success getting some good things done. I understand the dynamics of working as a group, or I wouldn't have been successful as an HOA Trustee. I wouldn't have run for the Surfside Board if I have a problem with discussion and opposing views. And no, I don't ever post anonymously.
I did a few times about 2 years ago, as Captain Crunch. The atmosphere got really nasty - mostly Trustees and Comm. members trashing Deb Blagg. Don't pretend you take the high road, everyone knows that isn't so.
