I got the figures as close as I could, but I do make a lot of mistakes. I have already spent more time on this than I want, but probably more than the Board Trustees.
I do hope the Volunteer and staff appreciation dinner is enjoyable for everyone. With only $1,750.00 to spend on it, I hope the drinks are furnished. God knows, I would need a couple. For many on committees, this is the only time they see each other. Damn, I feel so unappreciated. Such is life.
Have a good Thanksgiving everyone.
Don't feel bad George. I didn't get an invite either. We can meet at Dock's and cry in our beer. lol
ReplyDeleteI guess a pay raise, raise in benefits, bonus, birthday cakes, holidays is not enough appreciation. What we need is a little appreciation for the members who pay for all of this. Give me a break.
ReplyDeleteRaise the rv lot storage fees. We need more money to pay the lawyers and fines.
ReplyDeleteThe Volunteer appreciation dinner is basically just that. A minuscule showing of thanks for the volunteers (yes I guess the employees are invited too.) Works out to 80 cents for each member. Sour grapes to you lump of coal types. Get off your ass and contribute and you too may get an invite. And no I'm not an invitee either. So when you worked you didn't get a raise (basically cola)or have your benefits adjusted and some paid holidays ? You're pathetic.
ReplyDeleteSpend my 80 cents for legal fees. We members are lucky to get a hot dog after the annual meeting.
ReplyDeleteIt's a little late for Gil to get training. They should make him pay for it himself. We also paid for Neal's certifications. Maybe those two will get a jail cell together. They deserve each other.
ReplyDeleteIt is too bad that the budget sent out to folks with the proxy form was not the true picture of our financial state. Had the fines, legal expenses, the shoving of projects out years in the future been properly identified, people may have been more interested in voting or at least gaining more information so they may make a more educated decision for their vote. I feel the new treasurer feels some remorse for what they fame up with. I feel Kirby Smith exerted a lot of influence to keep the actual problems from the members. Just knowing that $80k had been spent vs a budget of $50k would have many owners asking questions. It was purposely omitted from the message. Perhaps the vote should be recalled?
ReplyDeleteok need to define that the $80k vs $50k was for legal fees. Kirby is responsible for much of that overrun.
ReplyDeleteYou do realize (7:10 PM) that the much vilified Kirby Smith hasn't been on the Board for three years. Doesn't even show up at the board meeting on a regular basis. Disagreed with several of his plans while on the board but enough is enough.
ReplyDeleteKirby still serves on committees n has influence. It’s called a clique, just like school. Some things never change.
ReplyDeleteAnybody who doesn't realize that this aforementioned clique is alive and acting in their own self-interest, as opposed to the good of the organization isn't watching.
ReplyDeleteWell, Patrick and Deb acted on their own self interest and that of those who voted them in, how is this any different? Just because you don't agree with it doesn't count. People talk about cliques and factions after every election and new board. All it is are certain people whining because someone they didn't like got elected.
ReplyDeleteAnd to add to the above comment. The appreciation dinner is just that, something to say thanks to the people who VOLUNTEER their time for the community. As far as the alcohol, the couple I attended everyone brought their own.
"people talk about cliques and factions after every election and new board."
DeleteFact is, our President was elected to that position initially in the mid-2000's. WE HAVENT HAD A NEW BOARD, OR ANYTHING RESEMBLING IT FOR OVER A DECADE! Retreads and syncophants. We deserve better!
Last two member were appointed - great democratic process there!
Either your not watching, or are a part of the problem. Which is it?
The reason I stated Kirby was in part responsible for the increases is because he was on the Board and, in fact, the President when the asbestos problem got its start. He also was on this budget group that raised the legal budget by 50% and which forced having to move planned projects items to the out years (read higher assessments to come). He is responsible for the outrageous legal fees we have paid this year because he was a main driver behind the lawsuit against Patrick, even going so far as to perjure himself in the process. He has been complicit in the cover up of what and where funds are being spent. You can bet Williams has him on speed dial and will blame him for the spending problem when the axe falls. Also, the last post. I am a volunteer here having served and serving on several committees and I refuse to take part in the appreciation dinner, so put my meal money back in the kitty. Deb only tried to get a tech committee going, something this Board managed to get squashed but hopefully it will rise again when we get some intelligent people on the Board. So have fun in your dream world.
ReplyDelete1:12 is prime example of what’s wrong in shoa, comparing apples to oranges. He is just blind to the difference, or is complicit.
ReplyDeleteor is Kirby. Mr. Smith has shown himself to be a bully time and again. He puts an ugly face on surfside.
ReplyDeleteNice try but your wrong, not that it matters. Not blind, just don't share your view. Interesting how you ignore what I said and instead came back with the name calling and insults. THAT'S what's wrong with SHOA right there.
ReplyDeleteTo the Deb comment. To say after that annual meeting she only tried to get a tech committee going is just wrong and actually laughable. You don't want to attend the dinner, fine. But don't trash an effort to thank those that donate their time to do things for us instead of only spending it on here.
From the information, what little there is, from what I see, committee members such as the tree butcher group, seem to be donating their time for their own interests, not for "us". They don't deserve a dinner.
ReplyDeleteClearly there are members submitting tree complaints, so they ARE working for members. Because you don't like it doesn't mean others have to agree.
ReplyDeleteOnly members they work for are their friends on J Place.
ReplyDeletePatterns don't lie - people do. J Place has been this way since I came here in 2002. Protect at all costs, no matter what or how damaging it is to other members properties. Stack the Board to make sure it stays that way.
DeleteYou consider filing tree complaints as working for the members? Not so, especially for anyone living past K St.
And you know this how 3:10?? You do know there are over 2,800 lots in SS, how do you know its just J place?
ReplyDeleteWhat a bunch of cry babies.
ReplyDeleteSo using all of you peoples logic that means only J pl people run for the board and only J pl people vote for all of these years. Yeah, right.
The reason people get appointed is due to people quitting. Just a reminder, your so called savior Deb got her position because a J pl trustee quit, remember that? Goes against what you people are crying about, doesn't it?
4:25 statement makes no sense what soever. Just another bitter rant.
Are you our newest BOT member? You are a BOT member, aren't you? Go visit another blog you mole.
Delete4:25 - it doesnt make sense because you dont listen. As to bitter rants, you seem to be the expert in that area. I second 3:22 - go play your games elsewhere.
Delete11/28 10:11, I (11/28 3:22) I was talking about 11/27 11:36 PM.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteMy focus here is the rather simple - I hate bullying and we witness that daily in this forum and through the self serving actions of the Board.
It cannot be allowed to continue.
Again, please explain how J pl stacks the board. Did someone from the ridge come down and stop you or anyone else from running for the board? Did they come and hold any of you hostage and force you to vote for someone you didn't want?
ReplyDeleteAsk the Olds, lol, still not buying it,
ReplyDeleteOlds appointment corrupt like everything else in SHOA.
