Any thoughts on this committee?
Minutes of CRC mtg on 2/2/21
Mtg started at 1:03 pm due to a glitch in the phone system
In attendance: Louise Purdin, John Williams, Jole Williams, Joanne McMurphy(guest), Monika Stum, Judy Dennington, Kirby Smith and Annette deLeest
1. Introduction of a new CRC member, Joanne McMurphy who is interested in restarting the Welcome Bags and has offered to fill the bags to be handed out to new members with pertinent SHOA information. Welcome to our committee and thank you for stepping up to take this project on!
2. Louise informed of Walt Platts funeral information and the inability to get information to mail a sympathy card or plant! The family was not willing to give that out. He did have a service in the Portland area on 1/20/21. RIP Walt-you will be missed!
3. Louise will definitely purchase the prize mugs for the golf scholarship fundraiser! Note: I ordered them (36) online and will pick up at Dollar Tree when they are there
4. Confirmed date of Tsunami run as 9/4/21@9am. Please hold the date to assist EMC with this.
5. Discussed possibly giving cookies, candy and roses to members for Valentine’s Day. Weather, participation and social distancing put a damper on this. Tabled to next year
6. Discussed possible activity for St Patrick’s day and will discuss further at March meeting. Probably won’t do any activities until May unfortunately but possibly a Meet and Greet of new board nominees, our yearly planting for Mother’s Day, veterans park Memorial Day service, etc.
7. Louise emailed Sarah Taylor, guidance counselor at IHS for new scholarship applications. We will give (3) $1000 scholarships this year to graduating Seniors.
8. Kirby will have information next month for this year’s tournament for Scholars for 2022!
9. John motioned to adjourn at 1:43 pm and Kirby seconded

I think it's one good committee
Seems like the only committee that has positive outcomes, even with Annette part of it.
When you become a member to a committee in Surfside, you're still just a guess. Wow! Typical Surfside!
Sounds like they are trying to do a lot of nice things for the community. We'll take positive of negative any day.
Surprised with all the issues Joanne McMurphy has had she chose this committee to be a part of. Wondering why she didn't join the Emergency management committee to so she could help with the sandbags or why not the architectural committee where she can help write the new lighting covenant that is proposed? Interesting choice
Anonymous 3:12, I will gladly answer your question. I became aware when our new full time neighbor moved in and she came over and asked where the compactor was located. I asked her about the packet of information like we received in 2008 gave her any information. She did not receive such a bag or packet. I remember how helpful that bunch of information was, including some free things from merchants and a paper copy of our bylaws and covenants. In visiting with friends and other new neighbors ( there’s been a lot ) and inquiring as to what happened, I decided I wanted to help in this area. So I volunteered for community relations committee and hope to help Louise and the others who have done this for many years.
I have, by phone, joined in on the emergency committee hoping to give feedback on what I felt was a need here. That being some kind sign-up volunteer group that when a member needs assistance you could call the contact person and a “phone chain or email chain” would be activated. That would have most helpful when our neighbors and us were flooded and needed help filling sandbags. So far no success in getting this started, but will continue to be a guest with that committee
Architectural committee, too personally involved to not be opinionated and meetings every week, no thanks!
Hope this answers your questions.
@3:12, and what committee do you serve on?
Thank you JoAnne for stepping up and trying to make our community a better place.
Same one you do Ronda
Your righteous attitude actually conveys an ugliness that benefits no one. Apparently, the fact that JoAnne has the backbone to speak her mind as a concerned member brings out resentment in you-very defensive like an HOAinner circle member. When the BOT approves self-righteous crap like this lighting proposal it needs to be called what it is - elitist garbage.
JoAnne isn't a chronic complainer. She is an engaged member who is willing to speak up where it is needed. Her choice of Committee participation is hardly your concern, nor is it insignificant. She's one smart cookie with a desire to contribute.
Thanks Steve! One thing I’m not hiding behind “anonymous “. And Steve’s right, I am ready to speak up when needed. After that sham of a lighting complaint to us in 2019 and the ay the BOT handled it ( not by the covenants) I unfortunately have become involved in trying to change some things here!
