Flawed Tree Covenant

Text & pictures by "Russ"...

Thanks for posting these photo's. (below text)

This is the result of a flawed tree covenant.
Our next door  neighbor to the north is limited to 24 feet, our lot and four more south on G street are limited to sixteen feet. This makes no sense, and nobody can explain why the covenant was written this way.

The board needs to make a revision and make it twenty-four feet for all lot owners, except to the
east on J street. I drove J street before these trees were topped and they did not block anyone's
view of the ocean.

The board hired Arbor Care to remove all the brush and trees around the shoreline on Seabreeze Lake, the willows were butchered, but in a few years they will be in full growth again. This was done in spite of a presentation given at a board meeting a few years ago by Kim Patton, Professor in charge at the University of Washington Research Station. In which he outlined the advantages of leaving vegetation around the shoreline to provide shade for the Trout which do not survive the warm water in summer months, and reduces shoreline erosion and helps reducing algae growth. But that information quickly went in one ear and out the other.

This board and community needs to become more
environment friendly.

Thank you Russ for sharing the story and pictures. It is enough to make a grown man cry. If trees could cry, these would. They can now only drip sap and become host to disease and insects and an eye sore and fire hazard. This is a Surfside shame that is only getting worse.

Russ,

I dont know how long you lived in Surfside. About 7 years ago, before the massive tree destruction, driven apparently by Jim Clancy and supported by most the elitist faction that controls Surfside there were tall trees all over Surfside. Very few blocked the views of the J Place people. I especially enjoyed the trees that were around the canal. My wife and I would kayak on the canal and it was beautiful, with trees arching over the water. Now it looks like a disaster areas. Really sad.
