These should be allowed in Surfside...
Pacific County allows a minimum of 400 sq. ft. homes and cabins.
Surfside allows a minimum of 900 sq. ft. homes and cabins.
The popularity of "Tiny Homes" are sweeping the country. The Washington State legislature is also proposing changes in RCW codes that recognize their value as permanent residences. I will be providing that information here on the blog soon.
Near Jack's Country Store in Ocean Park are several Tiny homes. One is listed by Lighthouse Realty, listing number 7074. The 413 square foot home is located on a 50 by 100 ft. lot. It includes an enclosed garage unit.
The home includes all the appliances with energy efficient heating and insulation along with one bedroom and one bathroom. A stacked washer and dryer provide a laundry facility. This is ideal for a single or a couple as a permanent residence or a vacation place. It also fits the bill as "neat and attractive".
It's foot print would fit nicely on many of our 50 X 100 ft. lots, and leave room for septic and natural landscaping. Our present covenant of a minimum of 900 sq. ft. rules out some lots as build able. As a compromise to those who would object to these, as a start they could be allowed in areas where manufactured homes are presently allowed. My personal opinion is that they all should be allowed everywhere. A change to allow smaller square footage in Surfside is long past due.
Below are several pictures I took today of the tiny homes in Ocean Park. More description and interior pictures are available at the Lighthouse Realty web site.
