Thank you to the Chinook Observer and reporter Patrick Webb for the informative news paper article about this blog site.

More needs to be done to promote this blog. Banners at all entrances to Surfside. Notices on the bulletin board at Jacks and Okie's. Sandwich boards on the roads. Whatever it takes to get more people aware.
You go do that 1010 and let us know how that turns out, I"m going to take a walk on the beach instead.
10:10, I'll help.
Clearly 12:03 won't.
Since the blog is like donald trump's tweets I would be horrified to see it promoted on Surfside property. And certainly not with SHOA $$$.
You wouldn't want you dues to actually be used for something useful, would you?
Re: March 27, 2019 at 12:58 PM
Really?
03/27 12:58 PM
We don't tweet that we are in love with Kim Jong Un. None of us are petulant children in grown-up bodies like Trump.
George, all props to you for the valuable service you perform for our community. The Observer is totally correct in acknowledging you.
That being said, the article has a flavor of grading the radio commentary while the neighborhood is burning down!
Is the Observer totally in the pockets of the current Board? This, with the shade thrown on Anonymous posts, is exactly what I would expect to see if that indeed was the case. Doesn't bad water, corruption, and collusion sell?
Re: March 27, 2019 at 1:41 PM
Not the venue for your noise... Did you take your meds today?
Good job George, keep it up, one day things will change.
Bob, why do you only come after me and not 12;58?
Bob, yes I did. Are you sincerely concerned about me or making fun of me?
Re: March 27, 2019 at 2:17 PM -- I did look above
March 27, 2019 at 2:39 PM -- Truth be told NO
And notice I have still kept politics of this nice Blog -- That was easy ---
Oh, and someone telling me my posts are like Trump tweets is nice?
The observer told me it was going to print a follow article to appear first week in fed. Was also told our business manager and a couple board members had a visit with them. So observer does article about the blog? George deserves it, but think there visit worked. Small communities🤷♂️
The Observer has assured that they intend to continue to cover the Surfside story and its' further developments. We know that there have been no developments to even suggest movement on the permitting issues at the Waterworks, and that's after the stop-work order of last Aug. (approx.) - about 8 months. So far, all we have is a public denial written by president Gary Williams in the "Surf-In-Sider" that there are ANY problems in Surfside !
Finally read the story. I would like to comment on this particular quote, “I do not edit a comment — whatever they say, it’s on there. If it’s offensive language, I will delete it.”
This is not accurate. First off, deleting a comment is editing no matter the reason. And second, many comments have been deleted because they don't agree with the blog narrative even without using offensive language.
I will use just one example that isn't even one of the more heated topics, the outflows. People had their comments deleted that were well written without attacks. They were just comments from the members perspective and observations that didn't go along with the hosts views.
i haven't seen that in two years on this blog, so I will be the first to say "BS!" If George deleted a comment, I trust it was inappropriate, and probably supported your 'BS'.
Im a smart ass, but never mean n dont lie, in at least two years i have never been deleted or edited. Ive seen many on here that have been deleted for obvious reasons, n alot that should have been.
Attacks against the blog and the host are deleted. Just the same old tired tactic, If you don't like the message, attack the messenger. The truth always has a way of coming out. More and more members are becoming aware of the ugly truths about Surfside. This will bring the needed changes to make the association function for all the members and not just the elite few. Will 2019 be the year that members take back their homeowners association? There is about a fifty, fifty chance right now. There is a concentrated effort happening right now, that may result in a much better community.
Agreeing with 4:07 for truthful comment.
I've been having a glass of wine and reading this blog for several years. Sometimes I have let the wine do the talking and noticed the comment was deleted. So maybe I was saved the embarrassment. That's okay with me. Good go, George.
I Must add, however, sometimes I am just brilliant.
Wow! 7:01 agrees with their own comment. I don't agree with it. I agree with this comment. This makes both our comments worthless.
03/29 10:28 AM.
You have no idea that those are the only ones you "call BS on" because most people post anonymously.
In fact, hmmm, I see a pattern with you.
Mike Riley
The statistics in the newspaper blog article were interesting and hopefully enlightening. "Of 2859 lots, 1320 are developed with homes and 369 are used by RV owners." The RV users seem to believe that they are a majority of like opinions on the blog. Not so!
11:05 I found that interesting too. With all the new construction on undeveloped lots seems the RV folks are definitely not in the majority on these RV issues.
10:57 through 11:11.
I can take your abuse. I have thick skin. Go ahead and continue taking away my rights as an RVer.
All I need is a driveway, water, power, and a firepit. Do you plan on taking one of those away from us RVers next after the no shed overhang more than 16"?
No one took away any rights from RVers. In fact, RVers were given extended time to have their RVs on their lots a few years ago thereby increasing their rights. We all bought into a set of covenants when we purchased our property. The covenants outline what our responsibilities and therefore rights will be as an owner. No one gets a pass to rewrite the rules to suit their personal wishes.
It is a realistic concern that a minority of organized RV users will rig the election to in order to proceed with changing covenants to suit themselves with no regard for others.
Looks like the blog host does not want us to notice that he side with the RV minority for changes.
11:52 just does not get it. Must be a slow learner.
03/29 11:40 AM.
No one except the BOT.
Read the CC&Rs and the AofI/By Laws.
Who was harmed by someone's 3' structure overhang?
Practice what you preach. I'm also saying that to the BOT who allegedly doesn't believe in following federal, state, and county laws.
If I was wealthy, I'd be suing this HOA.
The offending overhang (porch) was larger than 3 feet and it was not approved by the Architect Committee. It was in violation of what had been approved for this particular member and he did not submit new plans for approval when he made changes.
12:21.... You are an idiot. There is no such effort in the works, nor is it possible.
The recent covenant restriction on shed roofs is directed specifically at RV owners, some number who had porches or overhangs as is allowed by County ordinance. Homeowners need only claim their shed is a "shop" to dodge any compliance issues the Arch. Comm. may cite. This is a mean-spirited restriction that serves no practical purpose.
RV lot owners can have only one secondary structure so it's perfectly understandable that they may want to customize their structure a bit to serve their needs. So it's really strange that allowing creativity and freedom of choice in such a small matter is seen as "threatening" to the lives of other members.
The many sheds that were already constructed before the covenant was changed, that have now non-compliant features, are overall, beautifully designed and constructed. This is a useless meddlesome restriction.

Someone taunting me, personally attacking me, intentionally misspelling my name to ridicule me, and saying "your easy pickings to poke fun at" and I'm the bully and not grown up?
You knock it off and grow up!!!
Mike Riley you seem very unstable
Deletions again muddy the waters and leave us all wondering what in the hell to trust.
Nobody gets a free pass to keep things the way they were forever.
You are a broken record screeching on this blog.
Realistic? Put down that bong!
The RV users are the most disadvantaged owners out here, thanks to comments like the above.
Stupid people post stupid stuff. Save the paranoia for your buddies on the Board.
Deletions are once again probably totally justified. Your self promotion fools no one. An army of one.
Keep posting, and keep a look out for those boys in the white coats. It's just a matter of time.
It is okay to denigrate those who disagree with the blog bias but not otherwise. Interesting!
4:44 - thanks for proving my point, with your emphatic though wonderfully brief post!
U people need to get a life . Mind your own business
Anonymous 03/29 3:12 PM
I've persevered in life after both my parents died by my middle twenties, Masters degree in Civil (Structural) Engineering, I've held the job I have now for 17 years, I'm the Chair of an international engineering industry committee, and you say I'm the unstable one.
Many of us are well educated with advanced degrees and successful careers either currently or part of the past because we are retired. Many of us have survived successfully through some though times in our lives. Many of us have served on committees and boards either as part of our careers or as volunteers. Mike, you seriously need to get a grip. Your thin skin results in belligerent and confrontational (bullying) comments on this blog that are nuts. To my knowledge, your critics are as educated and capable as you are with a more level headed attitude about owning property in Surfside. Give it a rest. You are nothing special in the world of adults in the USA and Surfside.
Sorry about the typo in the word tough in the comment at 1:21.
For those of you who may care, this post is completely off topic, but something I care deeply about. Newly elected Rep Kim Schrier (D-WA) marked the event of National Vietnam Veterans Day (Mar 29) to replace the long standing Pow/MIA Flag from the office she occupies with a “Transgender “ Flag. I am not saying all persona do not deserve recognition, but as a veteran andone who knew many that didn’t return, I am personally deeply ofende. Is this the future of America? It seems to be part of the Democrats idea for the future, and I am concerned. For those liberally inclined, this is not “homophobic” it is a concern for where the emphasis has migrated.
The transgender issue created by Trump has changed the scene in veteran issues. Your darling Trump created the problem so be concerned about the Republican and conservative hate filled view rather than trying to push the issue onto liberals. You might want to focus on equality which is supposed to be the bottom line in the USA.
And Surfside.
3:37 by having to draw out Surfside specifically, I assume you don’ t agree with the previous blogger that Surfside is a part of the USA. I tend to agree as when looking at Governance it appears to be more like Venezuela.
11:21. Excuse me, did I say anything about the transgender POlLICY? What I said if you will pay attention is that a POW//MIA Flag was removed In favor of a social topic. I personally place more emphasis on those who gave their lives for our country. During my almost three decades of military service I commanded many thousands of service members, some of which were known to be gay. This was both in hot or Cold War and peacetime. I measured their contribution to the mission and contribution to the unit. They were measured against all the others and held to the same standards. It was before “don’t ask, don’t tell”. I didn’ t ask, they didn’t tell. Maybe transgender would be the same, but they have to earn their place, just like all others. I don’t make policy, others do. If you believe the decision by the. President is misguided, then speak up. As far as the flag issue, put the Stars and Striipes on top. The POY/MIA Flag next and you can have your social Agee day somewhere after that You have the likes of AOC, Bernie’s Sanders, “Pocohantas” et al that want you to give 90 per cent of your earnings to the government so they can run your life. We have spent decades fighting Socialism, I am not about to give up now. Wake up. If you care to discuss, come with me to a VFW meeting and meet some real heroes.
While I agree with 8:21, readers of the blog have time and again objected to politics of a national nature. Because the comment was signed with a name, out of respect I have allowed it to remain. In the future, please refrain from political comments. Thanks.
George. My humble apologies for bringing up the topic but I was (as you and others can tell) upset with the actions of the Congresswoman in giving what I deem to be disrespect to our heroes. I sought out this venue to spread the word. I did not mean to alter the function of this vital communication. I will restrict my future communications to the matters of the HOA and Surfside in general.
What we know is that the Trump "tax-cuts" have not reduced taxes for middle class Americans, and the plan is graduated to change over a period of years to benefit the very very rich, still further. It is a tax structure built by Republicans to benefit the wealthy, in the same spirit as they seek to eliminate health coverage for millions of Americans by ending the Affordable Care Act, while having nothing to replace it. Trump and Republican leaders intend to reduce Social Security benefits, as well as Medicare and Medicaid.
All of these measures stand to harm middle class Americans the most. There is a lot of public dialogue recently by Democratic candidates for president, and a lot of new ideas being tossed around. The conversations are healthy, and new approaches that are practical, need to be sought out. But the viewpoints are greatly varied, and only the more practical will resonate with voters.
But the deficit has grown by leaps and bounds under the free-spending Trump. He is all about himself, what he imagines to be true, and what can be done to benefit himself still further. That won't trickle down to you and I.
thick headed or what? the blog host asked to avoid politics and to stick with blog topics. the offender apologized. cox jumps in again. appreciate his liberal views but find them inappropriate here.
I felt that a statement that is baseless, claiming the Democrats will take everyone's money with huge unmanageable taxes, needed to be addressed. That seems to be the only real tactic the Republicans can muster - to foment fear. It has gone to such an extreme that there is a misinformation campaign on the internet that is completely over the top, with such claims as "Democrats eat babies". Amazon listed this as one of their best selling books - can't recall the title. It is thought that the claims of large sales were also hacked into the site, and false.
But we are living in strange times, where our national addiction to the internet is leading citizens to believe all sorts of bizarre claims, rather than the major news sources which have always had great integrity. It is an evil trend, to scare people into a mindset more akin to the Middle Ages than 2019.
Yes, I will respect that request, and generally avoid U.S. politics, but we have to recognize that our HOA mirrors many of the same depraved aspects of our current Federal gov., misleading the citizenry, disrespecting the citizenry, favoring a fabricated class structure through policy, and a lack of transparency. Lieing is not just a belief in alternative facts.
thanks so much for being inappropriate again and again.
It is factual information that you are objecting to, and there is nothing "inappropriate" about it. Quit your whining. It is politics that is driving our BOT and destroying our community - so will need to be dealt with as such.
Such dialogue is easily eclipsed by instances of Blagg beating, which is far more inappropriate.
funny that the blow hard, underhanded members defend each other while calling others trolls or, horror of horrors, board members.
Mr. Cox, I agree 100% to everything you wrote up to 1:13.
Mr. Smith:
While I understand your frustration and found no fault with the flag issue, you lost me when you had to go low with the Trump "Pocahontas" remark along with the socialism rant. Wanting health care for all (which BTW you received while in the military) shouldn't be considered a bad thing.
So shall we assume you don't draw social security then?
George, forgive me as this is a little political, but I feel 3:18 deserves a response. Do as you see fit. At least I use my name when I exercise my first amendment rights. What I stated was my opinion that, as an American I am allowed to do. If you don't see the Democrats as socialists, you haven't been watching any news that show even a portion of their "front runners" no matter what network. Medicare for all with a $141 Trillion dollar tag will bankrupt the country in a matter of a few years. I agree we need a better health care system, I believe their proposal is flawed, but no other proposal has come to solve the problem - yet. I expected your childish closing remark based upon your approach that you and only you are correct, no room for a dissenting opinion, those are called "closed minds". Regardless, I believe the Congresswoman was/is wrong with her treatment of the POW/MIA flag. As for the Social Security, yes I do collect it. After paying in since the age of 18, I feel it has been earned, although you must know that everybody who collects it gets much more out of it than what one puts in - except for Congress. They don't pay in, but receive a lifetime generous retirement after one term in office. I am sure you are aware of that-for both Democrats and Republicans alike. Your remark concerning the military was totally uncalled for. I assume your regard for the military is exacerbated by not having served, at least not in combat. Go get shot at for three years and we will see how you feel about service to the country and see if that health care really wasn't "free".
With posts like this, you simply confirm the worst.
Yes you do 9:33. God help the Republic.
Mr. Smith....You apparently buy the Trump line of baloney hook, line, and sinker. There are 20 or more democrats in the news, talking about new ideas, none of them united in a specific policy. Since the "New Deal" of Franklin Roosevelt, which lifted the country out of the Great Depression by establishing projects that put Americans to work, many programs have followed that are "Socialist" in nature. That is, they address social problems with a government program. Most of the success in European countries can be traced to these types of programs that help lift large portions of a society, with the intent of serving the many, and helping the overall economy.
There has long been a line of hysteria fed by some politicians to create fear of innovative ideas, among them socialist ideas, which have no inherent wickedness about them. Trump thinks along these lines. He knows shockingly little about history, and in particular, American history where most presidents are scholars of the subject.
Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, Food Stamps, The Affordable Care Act, the list is endless - all socialist in nature. We have done great things for our people by creating these programs to help the many with the safety net they provide. We are stronger together I've heard it said, and I think it's very true, and humanitarian in nature.
I'll drop the political line for now. But it doesn't have to be a negative conversation.
Lol, "line of baloney" isn't negative? Typical!
Sensitive huh ? Trump is a mental patient in the most powerful position in the world. Since he was elected he has been holding re-election rallies, and those rallies are a spectacle to behold. He rants complete fabricated nonsense non-stop for a couple of hours. Baloney is a pretty subdued word for the dialogue, nearly all completely baseless and mean. Our national security is at risk because he is president.
8:38 - agree totally. We will have minimal effect on national politics. Respectfully suggest we deal with this junta that has taken over our Association. Lack of communication, lack of financial responsibility, lack of restraint. The legacy of the Williams regime.
8:38 Another trump hater with nothing intelligent to say, so just spew out some nonsense.
11:34 - its much more accurate than the garbage you usually throw out here.
5:58 "covfefe", should be of great help to you.
You have deteriorated to Trump tweet nonsense. That's low even by your standards.
Sticks and stones, trollbait.
